In reply to Post #1221 I used to but nowadays I try not to get too involved with personalities for instance Bono is a knob but U2 have done some great songs. I hardly recognise the names and faces of many groups whereas years ago I could've told you everything and more, used to complete the NME crossword every week with the amount of crap that I knew.
So for that reason I like that version of 505 and the other one is great as well, I like the Jonesy's Jukebox bit I often listen to his KLOS show on youtube
As a guitarist I love Jonesy but sorry to hear of his troubled childhood LINK

In reply to Post #1213 That album pretty much covers all the iconic reggae tracks of the time - i just wish there was a tinny and scratched sound setting on my iPhone, to make these old albums sound like they should.
My dad bought a stereogram. Bloody great big thing that used to take up half of the front room. I wasn't allowed to play my records on it - it was reserved for The Pipes and Drums of The Scots Dragoon Guards, A Journey Into Stereo Sound, and Please Release Me.
Just looked up a Dansette - I'm now wondering whether that's what i had - I'll asked my older brother

In reply to Post #1206 I used to have the Trojan Reggae Chartbusters Album when it first came out.
Always thought what an iconic album it was, and recently downloaded it from iTunes. The Crystal clear sound just doesn't sound right. I much preferred the scratchy sound of the original when played on the old Decca record player.

Not exactly listening to but watching at the weekend a tele program on the origins of Trojan records, for the uninitiated its about the original late 60's early 70's reggae and its infiltration into mainstream music. Loved watching the old stars and their views and explanations of how they got involved. All very positive at the beginning black and white inputs, old music and old films of the clubs and skinhead white youth and rude boys getting along in appreciation of the music, culture and outlook.
That is until the left leaning singer of the selector, Pauline Black, came on saying how hard her life was, is and possibly would be in the future because of oppression, white priveledge and mysogeny.
But apart from her great show and went into our loft and dugout all the old records of my elder brother, which he had stored with us, including all his Trojan records, photo's of him and his mates all skinheads and not all white! Also found a press cutting of when he invaded the pitch at West Ham for a bet and witnessed by my father on the saturday sports round up and pools score results. My dad had to go and bail him out and attend court with him when he got fined £10 the bet was for a couple of shillings. this was around 1970 he's 10 years older than me and guided me through my dress sense when i became a skinhead in the late 1970's
Spent the last couple of days listening to Trojan playlists on YouTube

In reply to Post #1127 Lots of good version of that very good song. I like the John Otway version but I will spare you.
What I like about LOHAG is all the bits that make it up, for example the instrumental first 2 minutes would be good a composition on its own.
It makes Bohemain Rhapsody look a bit amateurish

In reply to Post #1007 Didn't know Denise Johnson had recently passed. RIP. Screamadelica was a massive record for me when I was a young man and she was a big part of the synergy on that album. Will always remember seeing her with the Primals headlining the NME stage at Glastonbury in '92.

In reply to Post #997 I wonder how many of the younger people in the audience realised that was a telephone dial in the background?
I used to love ELO and bought the first 6 studio albums on their release then as they become more popular I went the other way and ended up hating them and thought Out Of The Blue was awful and as more people began to be fans it turned me more and more off them, the emergence of the punk scene and keep it simple probably had something to do with it as well.
I hate Mr Blue Sky so much I get annoyed when I hear that awful Vocoder voice but after Mal’s link I think enough time has passed to say that at least I can now go back and enjoy the first 6 albums,
