My sister is the manager of a designer shop in Cheshire. 7 staff in total, the owner wanted her to get rid of 2 as lockdown eased. The staff came up with a plan to all work reduced hours and open the shop for 3 hours longer per day. Also they got intouch with a scientific supply company in North Wales that supplied them with individual hygiene packs for each member of staff which included high quality UK made PPE. They also purchased a high spec temperature gun which they self test with. I know these aren't perfect or in anyway can diagnose COVID-19, but they bought it anyway and shows they're trying.
The shops back up to 80% of sales compared to the same time last year. The staff and public clearly feel safe and no redundancies. The incentives should be as I say getting people back to work in a safe and constructive manner. Not sat on their arse on furlough payments waiting for things to go back to normal. Not everywhere is London....

Bearing in mind I live in London the answer is no.
What's your plan to get all those people into central London safely?

PS
I know you like tit for tats on here but I'm not carrying this on indefinitely
It's your idea you come up with the solution

So you can't think of any way to incentivise employees and employer's to get people back to work in a safe and constructive manner at the same time as lifting lockdown restrictions. Better to have a cliff edge furlough scheme in your view?

my neighbours said the same thing...

edit - it seems the bars of Manchester did a roaring trade last night and I doubt any of the many drinkers went back to anyone's home that wasn't their own....

no sign of the cat this morning - think she's decided to isolate at number 14 where the food is better

had a good chat today with a brill lad who lives nearby about the lockdown and Eid

He was gutted about not being able to celebrate with his family - after the last Eid being cancelled due to lockdown and the preparations he and his family had made but accepted that it is what it is. He was of a similar mind to me regarding the ridiculousness of the pubs and cafes etc.

It did make me wonder if Hancock would pull the same stunt at 9.00pm on Christmas eve though...

Or am I being too pc?

Looks that way doesn't it. Let's hope like the protests that were outside this doesn't cause a spike or we're all going to be lock down again

No I can't see how it can be done and is why I asked you seeing it was you that said you wanted to see things done that way.

Tazi
IMO the easing of lockdown is not perfect but it's not a mess that's channel 4 talk.
Easing lockdown and reacting quickly in localised areas seems to be the way forward. It could go on for long time like this so let's try and get used to it.

On a different note on the news today there was a disgruntled dad who coaches his figure skating son. Should've heard him go off on one about how outrageous it was that the ice skating ring wasn't open. People are still getting ill, dying, losing jobs and livelihoods yet they sent out a reporter to the blokes house to cover that one

I was referring to the initial lockdown but didnít realise you were referring to the easing of it afterwards.

Itís a mess really.

Can't you?
You must be able to dream up options even slightly better than millions on the dole.

Johnson today was ok ... like a student teacher in front of a class of five-year-olds - 'just keep doing the 'hands-face-space' routine and they'll like it eventually' whisper-shouted from the side of the stage to keep him going.
He didn't contradict himself, f*ck it all off for a holiday, or call Dom to ask what to say next, so well done!

This was an admirable example of clear leadership when compared to the uncoordinated sh1tshow on twitter and various channels last night with Hancock on telly this morning to confuse things further.

Brace yourselves for some half-arsed brexit agreement which is 80% in favour of the EU being peddled by Johnson as a 'Historic victory' while the resultant job losses are chalked up to Covid-19 (but we can't talk about that faithful voters, because that would be 'hindsight'...)

It's obviously debatable if there's a long term strategy. Edit: meaning I don't see one so can understand why they did.

Instead of spunking everyone's money up to stay on furlough the incentive should have been to get to work in a safe and constructive manner at the same time as lifting the lockdown. Crap leadership in my view.
