In reply to Post #4273 It could be because contracting the virus and dying don't necessarily happen in the same 24 hour period...
Not that I'm an expert of course...
Number of cases rises
Number of hospital admissions rises
Number of deaths rises
Oh and mp's pay rises of course

There wasn't much testing going on then ,we had nearly zero capacity , so, not many positive tests !
loads of testing going on now , so nearly everyone who has it gets tested

In reply to Post #4271 'Up to you'
Not aimed at you or anyone in particular but that's the problem, everyone gathering their facts and comparisons to suit their beliefs.

In reply to Post #4267 So we only go back 5 years to show death rates but have to stretch back to the 1980's to prove levels of unemployment.
Lies, damn lies and statistics!

In reply to Post #4266 Probably because it's more relevant to compare yourself to how you've been doing in recent years? Spikes and dips can then be identified and understood.

In reply to Post #4266 That's because there have been worse or comparable years (Asian Flu 1957, Hong Kong Flu 1968 for example) previous to that but then that wouldn't fit the narrative so they only mention the last 5
EDIT: But then there is this take in the BMJ on the 2018 Flu season LINK

In reply to Post #4265 Not been on this thread for a while
But i do wonder when they say against the previous 4 years was 5 years ago a bad year? why not state its either the worse year since records began or since whatever the year!
