In reply to Post #865 Let's hope it's not too long before we 'ramp down'

I know that politicians and the media love a buzz word / phrase but whoever started the whole 'ramp up' thing needs a kick in the pants.
since when did the british public fail to understand the word 'increase' and need a handy replacement slogan...?
sorry - i know it's a small gripe in the grand scheme of things but had to get it out of my system
peace and love everyone

In reply to Post #860 I guess it's primarily for those NHS staff who are having to isolate due to family members so they can at least get back to work.
you are right though - the test will only be valid up to the point it is taken

In reply to Post #858 Surely the 'testing ' is only like an M.O.T ……………… Valid on the day it is done.
You have the test … negative ….. back to the frontline ….. you get the virus at some point .
I don't see how one test proves or disproves anything in the long run.
Based on that ……. Only NHS staff need continual testing , as presumably people in hospital have been admitted with symptoms and therefore need treatment be it for Covid or the common flu.

In reply to Post #857 How does that work Jon, does it track your mobile phone by GPS like the Chinese are doing? They then send you a txt if you've been in contact with a positive testing person.
It's not that sophisticated. Just a way to flag up to the authorities those who have symptoms that are not serious enough for doctor/hospital to be aware of, and where they are. Nobody's moving at the moment anyway.

In reply to Post #856 With the appalling revelation that only 2,000 out of 500,000 NHS staff have been tested anything could be going on in the health and care system

I have just downloaded an app released by the Italian health authority where you can report any symptoms you might have (anonymously), the area where you live and work, any people you have had contact with etc.
I imagine this info will be used to track outbreaks to focus tests on hotspots, or relax lockdown in quiet areas. Seems like a good idea.

In reply to Post #852 It was only a few weeks ago we were being told the same as the Swedish. Does that need hindsight to beggar belief.

In reply to Post #852 Hi Sir B,
The criticisms of the Swedish government as a basket case seem to be being realised.
Here's what their medical professionals think of the idea.
Sweden has so far seen 4,435 cases of the coronavirus and 180 deaths as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The government says lockdown would lead to an economic disaster.
And although the Scandinavian country's relaxed "wait and see" approach flies in the face of all medical guidance it has no immediate plans to change its liberal ways.
The relaxed measures have raised alarm in the country's medical community.
A petition signed by more than 2,000 doctors, scientists, and professors has now called on the government to get tough and tighten restrictions.
“We’re not testing enough, we’re not tracking, we’re not isolating enough – we've let the virus loose,” said Prof Cecilia Söderberg-Nauclér, a virus expert at the Karolinska Institute.
“They are leading us to catastrophe.”
If, as you say, the Swedish people voted for that approach, then that beggars belief.
Perhaps they'll come to their senses when the bodies start stacking up.
BB.

In reply to Post #851 No problem just think it's all too easy to have an opinion in hindsight.
I was watching the news earlier and Sweden think the best way to deal with the problem is to carry on as usual, it was reported that the general consensus of the population is it's the best thing to do. I really do hope it works out ok for them but if things take a turn for the worst then with hindsight opinions will change.
