Interesting bit on 5 live a few minutes ago, a few questions from people in the same boat. There's been a change to universal credit which means more people will be eligible, but there is usually quite a long gap between claiming and receiving anything.

I'm hoping I can keep working but I'm being careful with my money regardless

I'm in the "at risk" group medically - I had half a lung out a few years ago, so I'm supposed to self-isolate.

I'm freelance in the entertainment industry so absolutely no work and no money for me, and apparently not eligible for anything from Boris
I rent privately so no help there either other than an eviction amnesty (which in the real world means nothing at all)
I'm single so no second income from a partner to buffer the loss.

Always worked, always paid my taxes, NI fully upon to date, never claimed a penny in my life.
Not much of a "system" is it?
If I'd been a dole-scrounger my whole life I'd have nothing to worry about but a virus right now.
As it stands catching flu is the least of my worries.

The longer this drags on the nearer the railway line gets!

BTW, has anyone read The Stand by Steven King...Eerie or what? First published in 1978.

Brilliant book Ken - great reminder, I think I'm going to read that again this week on the bank

More to the point how many people have health conditions that once they get this won't be able to fight it and they won't all be over 70. I find it upsetting myself that the press say so many people have died but they had other health conditions, so what many will have had these conditions for years and could well have still been with us in years to come. I read how one family had to visit there Dad in full on protective gear which they found very difficult to breath in which resulted in them not being with him when he died. People need to take this very seriously now becuse if the numbers in Italy are correct the worst is still to come, they have almost the same amount of deaths as China but with 1/2 the cases.

I think it may convince a few.......when you add in how many of the world population is over 70 which is 10 percent it in effect wipes the worlds over 70s completely out........

Do you think that will be enough for the 'its not as bad as flu' brigade to take it seriously?

Just doing some basic maths on the figures we currently have for infected v deaths and if it continues in the same vain then worldwide could see 250-300 million deaths.......

Done that and apart from not having a dry cough and a temperature I have the virus.
Of course I'm joking but you just know there's people out there that think like that
