No we don't have 1000s of young women wanting to go into nursing. Why would they want to go into a underpaid job. I for one was very greatfull for every Spanish, Italian specialist Nurses that kept my Dad alive in 2018 and gave us an extra 6 months together. They didn't just come over here on a whim hoping to find a job they were recruited by the NHS to fill positions that they could not fill. When I worked in a care home the company actively went to Poland to recruit staff.
As for your comment about Training there are plenty of people that have been trained in the UK and then gone back to there home countries or in the case of British citizens have gone to work aboard as they can earn more money.

The NHS has been begging for people to sign up for years now as there is a lack of nurses. You even get all your tuition fees covered, plus paid for the work you do whilst training. Not like there isnít incentive to sign up, but thereís still a lack of interest clearly.

Itís a shame people have the mentality that foreigners have Ďstolen jobsí even now with everything else going on. Especially when they are risking their lives too. You canít Ďstealí a job when itís vacant and there is no one to fill it.

Hi BB

I never use the phrase 'our own' when it comes to people. Too easily slips into a them and us mentality that's easily manipulated for some of our more right wing friends... It's been hijacked for an agenda that I don't like.

That aside, I'd say it's lucky for the NHS and for every person Luis has treated, not just the famous ones.

I'm sŻre there are thousands of young women - and young men too - who would like to train to become nurses and I'd hope that after this is over the whole approach to nursing as a career is made more accessible and viable for them all.

Hi Mal,

Lucky for whom do you think? Her or us?

It cost her home country a lot of money to train the admirable Ms. Pitarma.
Don't you think she should be serving her community there?
We have 1000s of young women who would like to become nurses.
Don't you think we should be training our own?

BB.

So Boris makes a point of thanking two specific nurses for his NHS treatment

One of them is a Portuguese nurse named Luis Pitarma. Luckily Luis was employed as a nurse here before Brexit eh...?

Some people should hang their heads in shame with their behaviour, all I have done is stick to guidelines and help out my neighbours.I had to tell a guy at sainsburys a few weeks back to calm himself down,he was being abusive to the lady controlling the people going in and out of the store. She was just doing her job and did not deserve to be sworn at
