If nurses and doctors, in fact all hospital staff have to stay home to look after their kids, who the hell is going to stop the vulnerable and infected from dying?

Makes perfect sense to me, same for Police, Fire service etc - essential services need to run or there'll be total anarchy, it's only 3 meals away!

Damage limitation is the plan

Seems reasonable to me. If a teacher is getting full pay and it's reasonably safe and they are well enough to go into the school then they should go in.
It's not the school but the government that wants the pupils not to go in to help slow down the spread of the virus. Whether that is scientifically correct no one knows but the decision has been made.
Allowing kids of essential workers into the school allows them to go to work and help the rest of us, I'm sure we'll all grateful to those people

So IMO it's reasonable

My sons girlfriend whose school where she teaches at is closing down due to the virus. However she has been asked if she ‘under no obligation’ would still go into school to teach the children of those on the frontline such as doctors, nurses, hospital workers etc etc.

Should surely be across the board by either close or open with no inbetweens.

Thoughts greatly appreciated?.

I think that one of the most alarming things about this is that , many people are surprised such a pandemic has actually occurred (human made or natural !) and you just know that the governments wont learn from this and continue to allow world population to explode .

Also, on an island with many islands around it - why hasnt one been set aside to be an isolation hospital? as long as there is a modern structure that could be housed under some sort of biosphere, if such a problem occurs all the medical equipment could be shipped over and plugged in ready to go. It would keep the staff working there and the population safer.
Afterall, there were similar preparations for a nuclear war with various bunkers. Anyone been to the Kelvedon bunker?

Maybe im being too simplistic

And with the state of the shelves in the supermarkets we're getting a little flavour of what communist Russia, Venuzuala, Cuba et al are like!

good health everyone !

Finally got through to book an appointment after 1 hour 28 minutes!

Answered by a scouser - the irony!

Cutting the 5 week wait will help but the likely pittance will just about feed me if I'm careful.

Bills will just have to mount up and companies go whistle until I'm earning again.
There's going to be an awful lot of that about

All advice to those on the "gig economy" is the same, basically - "sorry, but jolly good luck anyway"

Jeez mate

I'm guessing the MU advice is the same?

I'm sure I heard on one of the reports that they are cutting the 5 week wait for universal credit so people can get money from day 1. Hopefully that's the case. Good luck fella

Duggs- regular secondary school so all shut from tomorrow apart from vulnerable and key workers children. I'd imagine that special needs schools could have a different guidance as they are by definition way more unique in their provision. There was no specific mention in the press conference in can recall though.

Nope - the Eqiuity advice is if you're not on a contract or PAYE then apply for Universal Credit or New Style ESA.

Equity is really theatre/TV based - they don't really get involved in the live music industry

Did my application this morning and the next step is to book an interview for assessment.

Currently been on busy-hold for 59+ minutes.

Are equity not on the case?

Surely the hardship funds are for times like this although it's not a bottomless pit of cash...

I think some extra troops moved into the barracks in Clapham and people put 2 and 2 together

Only a matter of time really

He dies 3 or 4 times a year on social media though... At his age obviously its always a possibility, but bull**** news is rife. Last night the army were descending on London apparently with troops everywhere mid afternoon, and yet driving through I saw none whatsoever

Interesting bit on 5 live a few minutes ago, a few questions from people in the same boat. There's been a change to universal credit which means more people will be eligible, but there is usually quite a long gap between claiming and receiving anything.

I'm hoping I can keep working but I'm being careful with my money regardless
