I remember early on the repeated mantra that no test is better than an inaccurate test. That does seem to have become secondary to meeting numbers now.
Good earlier post about the self testing and it not being done right. From what my sis described I'd imagine most people would be stopping short of what they did for hers...

Testing for current infections is actually meaningless given you could pop in for a pint of milk on your way home and become infected. As a measure for that specific moment in time I understand but without a full lockdown the figures won’t be relevant a few days down the line.
A reliable antibody test is essential, not as a passport to do what the hell you want. But used in conjunction with the swab test to understand the true scale and genetic susceptibilities.
No surprise the countries with the biggest problem have high population and housing density and an I’m alright Jack attitude

In reply to Post #2107 Yes I'm sure 100K being a 'nice' number had a lot to do with it, after all It's not like they is an equation you could use that accurately calculates what's possible.
I'd rather people aimed high and fell a bit short than went for the lesser / easy option I agree with that as well

In reply to Post #2105 Why though , all these false promise , you loose faith ! Laura kuenssberg , every night , always offered the first question , the safe option ! these tests are bolloc*s , the false reading percentage renders them useless ,in 2 or 3 days time we will have the 2nd highest death rate in the world and Boris was claiming success today , WHY , are you not insulted .
Oh well what do you know , looks like the facts are,,,, masks are a life saver !
One for Wayne as a pointer , 3 of the worst hit countries , the leaders are political buffoons ,right wing populists , America , Brazil and the UK , that will point you in the right direction , Brazil were a late starter , but are catching up quickly !

In reply to Post #2105 fair point
I do still think he just made it up - 100,000 sounds like a nice round number. that's our target!

In reply to Post #2103 C'mon guys are you really that desperate and petty over not reaching a target 😂😂 your letting yourselves down 🙄
I'd be more concerned about the level of testing from some of the pictures I have seen today , of some people being allowed to do it themselves in the car , no way are most people going to push that swab through there nose and touch the back of there throat of there own accord .

In reply to Post #2102 It wasn't a promise it was a target. I suppose they could've set themselves an easier target and then show off when they reached it with relative ease?

In reply to Post #2098 just watching a group of politicians overtalk the whole thing on question time...
they've missed the target - but let's be honest, it was a number just pulled out of the air anyway - and so they'll receive criticism for it. fair enough - their job is to keep the promises they make us.
seems to be a sticking point as to 'now what?' - Grant Schapps doesn't have the answer...
let's hope that there's a strategy for what the next steps are...

Exactly , like having 100 000 guns to fight a war but nobody to pull the trigger ! not to mention the 20-40000 that won't fire ,

In reply to Post #2098 I think the test almost being a brain swab will limit numbers even when capacity and availability is up.
Can’t say I’d fancy it...
I bet Wayne wouldn’t have one
