Wayne and BB

you are trying to defend the indefensible , the whole world including the majority of our right wing press and media have started to hold them to account and the facts are there for all to see , the facts are very damning , to sum it up ,
Boris didn't have his eye on the ball he ignored good advice and went with the herd immunity then did a u turn ,by this time he was exposed in regards of lack of ppe , ventilators testing equipment etc , so they tried to manipulate the figures and deflect blame , We were warned that Boris is a lazy fu**er ,

Itís the responsibility of the management at any care home to provided the tools for the job, not you or me!

I'm deadly serious. It's a pandemic ffs, it has a massive mortality rate with the elderly and infirm. You may be happy for the Capt Tom's of this country to be ripped off for a £1000+ per week and as they're being carried out in coffins killed by COVID-19 blame the care home management. I'm not. It's OUR responsibility to make sure care home's and worker's are fully supplied with PPE and trained in it's use, so that these people can't get infected.
The reckoning can come later.

I checked out your link Mal and normally I'd say you can make stats say anything but in this case there are no stats.
Maybe I've missed it (I'm no going to spend all afternoon investigating) but I would have to like to have seen who the 50 countries are and what 'stats' are used to rank them.

Hiya BB

It's as I said - phrases like that are too easily used in different contexts to push a divisive right wing agenda. But you know that and you know that when right wing organisations use the term 'our people' it's not the same as me saying 'my cat' etc.

It was late and I was probably being overcautious...

It's not really the important bit of what I posted anyway.

Interesting point about a nations treatment of animals related to ethics. I think the current knee jerk reaction to China is riding that wave - although far fewer people seemed bothered about it until recently. I've said before that we could look more closely at ourselves and other countries when it comes to animal welfare. The Voiceless Animals Cruelty Index is worth a look - although not great reading for the US who come next to bottom.

https://www.voiceless.org.au/content/us-ranked-second-worst-nation-world-new-animal-cruelty-index

As I've also said before - we could do a lot better too. The RSPCA has plenty of horrific examples.

Animal cruelty is horrible - it was before the Coronavirus crisis and unfortunately it will be afterwards too...

Hi Guys,

Just a few observations.

Ken....I wouldn't call the Times right wing. I read it for years, and the reason I did was because I found it to be the least partisan and hyped with Dogma, at least in their editorial pages. They would give criticism or support to political issues without obvious bias. They often printed articles from journalists both left and right to present a balanced view.

Re the article you posted, Michael Gove was interviewed this morning and pointed out errors, like that, Prime minister's don't always chair Cobra meetings, nor do the military always attend anfd that the relevant cabinet minister, often chairs those under his remit. The point is, that the devil's in the detail and eventually, detailed, forensic reports will come which will give a more definitive analysis to apportion responsibility.

Re South Korea, they suffered from the last sars outbreak and so learned lessons and stockpiled huge quantities of kit and were ready for any new virus outbreak.
Germany, to their credit, immediately identified the value of testing and were fortunate to have about 100 Roche labs in situ, and instructed them to produce millions of test kits.

Re China, Not's 1384 post gave a damning opinion based on his own personal experience and re his reference to cruelty to animals, I read an opinion, that a good pointer to a country's ethics and humanity was to look at their treatment of animals, both wild and domestic. Well, pictures of Chinese wet markets with dogs hanging on meathooks and info that they boil them alive paints a bleak picture.
Given that China is an authoritarian regime, it seems naÔve to give their freedom of information, the same credibility as would be given to a western democracy, which is tough enough to evaluate.

Mal, it's interesting that you would give an apology for writing, " your own. " You mentioned it to me before, questioning my use of " my own. " I wonder why, innocently expressing possession, would give cause for a negative connotation?
Do you never say, my car, my children, my house, my wife, my syndicate, my mistake, my problem? So what's wrong, as I did, in saying my country? I could say, the country that I was born and live in, or the wife that I am married to, but that is unnecessarily cumbersome and means the same thing.

BB.

Edit. I forgot you Jon boy, mustn't ignore you eh?
Of all the pejoratives you use and could use, you pick lazy, re Johnson?
Given the effort politicians have to make to climb to the leadership of their party and campaign, successfully to become Prime minister, lazy would seem to be the least effective insult you could throw.

Marks.....3/10.

Ocelot, you cannot be serious!!

The responsibility for care homes is down to the management company, not the government in anyway, shape or form!

After all this BJ will still be PM and now has the job of getting the country moving again, no easy feat but Iím sure there will be plenty saying Labour would be doing so much better......

@ Spanker - Bolton is now the CV hotspot you say. well hopefully it will clean up / sort the grooming gangs as labour never could and KS wouldnít dare for fear of losing voters in that neck of the woods!!

The Care Home owners were happy to take the profits, not just a profit but cutting everything to the bone to really maximise profits, they should be supplying PPE and a safe working and living environment. As a short term infill the workers and residents should be supplied with PPE but bill the owners once this is under control for the full cost ie logistics, deliveries and the cost of PPE.

Itís the same as Branson laying people off and then asking for government support. Itís wrong on every level.

Canít wat for the government update and the inane stupid questions from the journalists, itís pathetic from both sides and if I see that slide showing how travel has reduced one more time I will probably loose it, what ****ing use is that slide and even shows all motor vehicle rising 😡

So ignore the chain of responsibility and jump straight to the top then ? The people in charge of the care home's are directly responsible ,

Government's may have outsourced the care of the elderly to profit making organisations. No government can outsource their responsibility for our elderly and vulnerable though.

EDITED...

Sh1t...I promised myself I would not get into a debate that politicises the dreadful pandemic. That will surely come later, maybe many years later, when this awful plague is finally defeated. One thing's for sure, we cannot expect things to go back to normal...EVER!

Agreed about Brexit, and itís the same Anti-Brexit lot (led by the marching drum of the MSM) thatís finger pointing towards the Toryís and Trump over this COVID-19, and will remain to do so after it has been controlled and they find another issue to whine about.

Their energy would be better spent making noise towards the Chinese Communist Party where the root cause lays.
