In reply to Post #11 That's it. It's been annoying me for a couple of weeks now.
Quite a few of us Ledbury lads fished Eastnor when it was on the day ticket, but only one (from memory) joined the syndicate. He stayed on there longer than I did too.
I also first saw Ian Poole there, who I later got to know much better at Horseshoe.

In reply to Post #7 Jack was the bailiff, used to live in one of the cottages a d drive an old Landy.
I believe Andy who made the indicators moved to New Zealand.

In reply to Post #9 Never met Any of them but I only did the one season on the syndicate and fished it a few times on the day ticket prior to that, I met a lad called Paul from Tewkesbury who was on Eastnor back then and then I bumped into him on a syndicate I joined in Tewkesbury in 2011 saw him quite regularly for a season then he then re-joined Eastnor, a few years later probably around 2014 I bumped into him again on a trip back from France on the ferry and that was where he was telling me how Eastnor had come on.
The Sub and may others had the big lumps I think Ian said they had liver fluke, it was scared with an X practically right on top of the lump, the big parrot mouthed common had half it's head missing like someone had sliced off the bottom half as you say a lot of them were like this because of the day ticket days and being dragged through the pads mainly why I left as the older bigger stock were battered plus I had caught 3 of the biggest known at the time.

In reply to Post #8 Quite a few of the fish back then had parrot mouths due to the lilies. I think it was the sub I caught - it had a bulge on the one side. It was a PB, but the old fella who sold the day tickets took the pics and I don't think both me and the fish were in any of them.
If I was closer I think I would apply for a ticket. I had some great times on there, and met some "interesting" people. Did you ever meet Tony & Ivan the Dudley bin men? They were an absolute riot - more so Tony. I think Ivan only came along to make sure Tony didn't kill himself.
Andy from Tewkesbury was a syndicate member. He invented the indicators that ran off alarms and lit up when you got a run. He sold the patent to Fox.
I think I had moved on to Horseshoe by the time the events really took off, and spent the next 12 years (maybe more) on there.

In reply to Post #7 The Sub, Parrot Mouth Common,Perfect common were three that I can remember that used to go over 20lb at the right time of the year, similar to you I caught all three just under 20lb in the 94/95 season, I think it was either the 3 or 4th year after the syndicate formed, I fished it a few times when it was day ticket.
The biggest ball ache was when the weddings had fireworks from the castle turret, if you'd turned up on a Friday got set up fished the night then some guy doing the display would come round on a Saturday afternoon asking you to break your bivvy down for an hour at 11 at night or they had clay shooting from the same lake facing turret and you would get peppered in shot had a few melt through my old Cypry dome.

In reply to Post #6 Even though I no longer live 2 miles from the lake, Ian still gives my Dad updates on the lake and was still running it as of late last year.
I cut my teeth here and was where I caught my first ever double from the lake. There were only about 4 twenties back then, but I never caught one. Well I did, but it was February and way down in weight at seventeen and a half.
I am racking my brain trying to remember the name of the elderly gentleman who used to sell the day tickets before it went syndicate. He lived a few doors away from Ian and used to bring down apple pie his wife had made for the regulars.
My dislike of Davina McCall stems from her having the lake closed when she got married at the castle.

In reply to Post #3 Cheers buddy. I actually rang the castle and got put on the waiting list. Sounded pretty big to be honest. Is it worth calling Ian directly?

Ian used to run it many moons ago lived just up the road pretty sure he still does, it was around this time of year that he used to do the membership renewals ready for the start of February, I still have his number and email but he never used to pick up or respond it was always a case of calling at the house at the right time (about now).
About 60 members and 300 fish I believe with a sprinkling of 30+ these days.
