In reply to Post #5260 Yeah maddison is class.
No game in hand after today though so if utd lose they're second.
It's got to be the biggest motivation for both sets of players. Always the biggest derby imho

In reply to Post #5259 I think UTD will settle for the draw but like you say, a loss against last year champions is not such a bad thing, they would be level on points still with the game in hand. Could be in fourth place this afternoon then
Fantastic goal by Maddison btw

In reply to Post #5258 It's a bigger game for united. They're playing the champions. We're just playing the 3rd best team in Manchester..... (after City and City Women)
I think we go into the game third as Leicester won against Southampton.
Lucky the season doesn't end in January eh?
As always I'm hoping for a good game. But they're more often than not very cagey and niggly. We're in a rut at the minute so a win would be a good result, if a little unexpected on current form.
Hoping for a Liverpool win, a few goals, pogba to have a stinker (he's due one after his 1 decent game last week)
And for Jordan Pickford to be wrongly convicted of a crime and face pritti Patel and noj as his sentencing panel..... (News thread reference....)

Big game tomorrow for the scousers,,pressure is on them now, not UTD, win loose or draw. If City get the win the could be down to third

A huge opportunity.

In reply to Post #5230 fair enough
tbh I didn't see it as revenge - i don't waste my positive energy on such trivial things. (we'll sort them out in the league match though...)
I think the rules might be different because it's the FA cup and not the Premier League. not sure though.
I know Mourinho has already started moaning about the villa / spurs game being postponed - even though it hasn't been yet. funny him saying about how seriously and professionally they are handling covid guidance after his players antics over Christmas....

In reply to Post #5229 Not quite the same story, all your players were fit and well and it was up to you who played in what game.
Not worth arguing about though, enjoy your revenge.
So why were Fulham allowed to postpone their games, couldn't they have been forced to get some kids in?

the young villa lads did well and you can't help but be pleased for young Barry who got his goal - and fabinho's shirt
as for the possession / one way traffic - just like playing against Spurs really....

i'm hoping for a good game - attacking football, fast paced, some goals... hopefully a few injuries and suspensions

In reply to Post #5194 City were always going to come good. Too many good players not to really. United are a surprise but in a season where nobody is really playing brilliantly they are getting the wins now.
As average as we've been, there's still nobody who wouldn't swap places with us and with players coming back in we will get better again.
Looking more like a fight this year - unless you're Sheffield United who are just bending over for everyone

In reply to Post #5156 A draw would suit me
But I'm with scozza in thinking that city will edge it. Better squad players to cope with the schedule
Hoping that it's a scrappy draw with Jordan Pickford injured in a snow falling off the roof incident.
Then driven over by the snowplough.
And the gritter.

Allardyce doing a mourinho
Whichever way you look at it, it's **** to watch. It may be 'effective' but so is senokot ffs. Give me Kevin keegan and his crazy Newcastle any day of the week.
Mane's goal was good. And to be fair their keeper made a great save in the last few minutes.

Need this cup game like a hole in the head.
Number 1 goalkeeper gets injured. Bring in number 2 goalkeeper, gets injured. Bring in emergency loan keeper, gets injured. Bring in another emergency loan keeper, gets injured. Recall Bursik back from loan and thankfully he’s doing well after a shaky start.
Clucas injured.
Then we lose Tyrese Campbell out for the season.
Up the Potters.

In reply to Post #5113 Keeper looked petrified, won’t have done his confidence any good at all.
Someone says you ain’t got a top striker, well I really rate Aubermayang just don’t think Old Capt Scarlett is getting the team to play to his strengths, I know he didn’t play last night but he needs to run on to the ball, I m afraid your lot pass it about from left to right to back to right and back to left and by then he’s made his run and is lost floundering in no mans land, against us you had all that possession but we just forced you out wide and dealt with all the crosses piece of piss, if you still had Giroud that might have got you a goal or two,
I don’t understand why so many top teams give the managers job to ex players without cutting their teeth at lesser clubs first, there’s not many been successful..... Pep has never managed a team without a big fat transfer cheque or an above average squad to help him, most of the top managers were average joe in their playing days, even TVs top pundits have all failed miserably in management.

In reply to Post #5111 I looked at that team last night , there was,nt one player that i would want at anfield ! Arsenal have for the last 20 years had fantastic forwards , they have not got one now ! keeper was out of his depth , defenders pulled out of position far too easy , no one will do well with that squad , arteta should stay and build his own team , i hope he is allowed to.

Tonight is meaningless for Arteta and Arsenal. When they lose to Chelski, they have a literal relegation 6 pointer against Brighton. Don't win that and you could well be in the relegation spots. That's the game, if they lose to Brighton Arteta is history.

In reply to Post #5085 This is it, I think you hit the nail on the head pal, shandy drinking southerners
When I have a beer it’s a quality brew, strong too, even has a head on it, they don’t know what that means!
When they have a beer, sorry, lager, it’s like witch piss, filled to the top of the glass so they get there money’s worth. If there’s a fire use the cockneys lager tank
When I have a tea it’s Yorkshire tea or a green tea, you know, quality stuf!
When they have a tea it’s PG tips, you know, the one that monkeys drink, nuff said
See the pattern
I could go on, you know, northern football clubs and southern ones...

Well, **** me. I looked at the UTD team sheet prior to the game and was pleased not to see Pogba in it, no place for a lazy **** playing against Leeds. 6-2, 3rd place in the table with a game in hand. Real score should have been about 15 - 5 lol
26 shots on goal with 14 on target, Miss, miss, miss. I’m pleased Pogba didn’t play but ffs, not one goal from a striker
Suppose things can only get better, one day they may get somebody up front who can get on the score sheet regular

In reply to Post #5062 Some good points.
The other factor is who would take over, I can't think anyone who is free who'd be a good fit.
When Arteta came in he said he wouldn't take any ****, he made his point with Ozil and put Guendouzi out on loan but that's about it. He doesn't seem to make any progress in that department. Or maybe behind the scenes he has tried to put his foot down but maybe its had the wrong effect.

In reply to Post #5061 For a big club to put so much faith in a manager when they are down there is a massive gamble for me. I always go back to Fergie, he was virtually down and out and they stuck by him and he went on to be one of the most successful ever. They seem to have stuck with OGS and weathered the current storm, I think if they can keep the consistency going and keep them in contention of the top four spots they will back them, continually up and down and they will be gone. Arteta has probably got the dream requirement, played for the club and loves the club, not some mercenary like Pep and Jose € so the reality is, there is no better for the club. He has to deliver though. If he can turn it around and get them back up there he stays, I reckon he has got half a dozen games left, dangerously low in the table at the moment. If they stick with him and he can turn it around they might have a master on their hands and the fans would love him
Seems to be most of the bigger clubs over the last few years have brought the big names in and its paid off, hopefully the tide is changing, Lampard, OGS, Arteta, Ex players, massive passion for the club not just their next pay check

In reply to Post #5058 You don't have to go too far back for Arteta's better moments but it's certainly been a sharp drop.
Maybe he should be given some more time but I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone this time next week after the Wallets and Chelsea matches

Mourinho is just jealous. ****in grinch
It won't be long before the spurs fans dislike him as much as the rest of us...
Feel for arteta. He's stuck with a poor squad and his better players aren't enough to carry the rest. I hope they stick with him and give him time to build a team.

In reply to Post #5050 I think you raise a valid point Jeff. Does not really bother me but if I was a gunners fan I would have wanted somebody with the track record myself. LOT of responsibility and a weight on the shoulders at a club like that. It’s his job to sort it out and get them playing though too

We are improving. Again the team came out better in the second half but this time no one got sent off and we finished with 11 men. Keep this up and it’s only a matter of time before we get out of this relegation battle.

Early kick off for my lot today - never like those. we always struggle with them.
Got fond memories of Selhurst Park though. Used to go there a lot when I lived in that London as you could always get a ticket. Saw Owen's first game (and goal) for Liverpool vs Wimbledon there back in the day. The whole ground booed as one when the news came through that United had won the league

Dear Jose,
I’m well aware of the fact that you have won 25 trophies as a manager including league titles with four different clubs, two Champions league, two europa league cups, a nine year run undefeated at home with your clubs, I could go on.
It gives me no pleasure in having to inform you that according to the three wise men of the carp forum football thread you have got not a ****ing clue how to coach a football club, this may come as a shock for you but their knowledge of the beautiful game is something to behold.
I am going to help you by warmly inviting you to become a member of the Carp forum whereby you could interact with these geniuses and perhaps manage to pick up some useful tips on football management.
Yours sincerely
Jimmyad.

In reply to Post #5027 agree about Moura - very good player but maybe too 'flair' for jose
Bale is a conundrum - if Ibrahimovic / cavani can get fit enough for the Prem then he should be able to. maybe his problem (not his fault) is that he'd be the star turn and jose doesn't like anyone but him being the story.
as for Alli - he's been living off past glories for ages now. wouldn't make the bench ahead of Curtis Jones for me. arrogant and lazy. he should sod off to PSG

In reply to Post #5024 I don’t think they have great players Jeff, not good enough to outplay Liverpool in a passing or attacking football game, hence the tactics. Kane is a great finisher but he is certainly not a whippet, that’s what they needed, Son plus another one or two who can run with the ball, Bale!, if he was on form and played he would have had a few for me, the tactics were made for him

In reply to Post #5023 yeah I just saw that too
let's hope he does well and avoids the extra curricular with old ladies that his old man was fond of eh?
Jeff - absolutely. We had two 19 year olds that more than held their own against Kane and Son. No mean feat that.
Klopp named coach of the year by FIFA
Alison, Trent and Virgil in the best team (Thiago too, but he was a Bayern player for the voting)
Son's goal against Burnley wins the Puskas award - rightly so

my views on this are well documented and my reasons are more important than a political movement. some things to maybe consider...
There is a political BLM faction - but this is absolutely NOT the big picture. As said, for most people BLM is about the wider - and still prevalent - issue of racial inequality. In the same way that believing that we should all treat each other as equals doesn't mean that you are in full support of the Catholic Church (by way of an example of an organisation that expounds this wider philosophy). The Millwall players had already distanced themselves from the political wing prior to the game.
If you are naive enough to think that the previous anti-racism campaigns in football have worked, then you haven't been watching the same game I have. it didn't end when Cyrille Regis retired. nor Fashanu, nor Barnes, nor Wright...
Many black players have - and still do experienced racism in their careers. They didn't bring it into the game. They - and their team mates of any colour - have a right, even a responsibility, to show their support for each other and for the ongoing fight against discrimination.
People speaking up for what is right isn't 'ramming it down your throat'. Would we say the same to the Macmillan Cancer nurses and their pesky, intrusive advertising campaign? (I'm being sarcastic here in case any of the Millwall mob take it literally).
Unfortunately 'all lives matter' is a cop out and in the same way BLM has been appropriated by certain undesirable factions, this has too - by racist / right wing factions who think they are being clever. it's dead point of argument anyway - Saying that Black lives matter doesn't mean that other don't. And if 'all' lives really matter to you then you should be able to say that black lives do without feeling threatened. The sad state of the world is that for too many people, black lives don't matter equally, and that is the simple idea behind the movement.
The 'taking of the knee' in this context was born from Colin Kaepernick. An NFL quarterback who refused to stand for the US national anthem as a protest before a game. It belongs in sport as much - if not more - than as anywhere.
by way of a bit of karmic cynicism, if the poor offended white Millwall fans - and their counterparts elsewhere - don't like it, then maybe they should just go home. sound familiar?
essay over. it's surfaced here as it's a football thread and the context was / is football related. no apologies for re-stating my points - I promise i'll stop 'banging on about it' when it stops being an issue.
peace and love all - except Man U fans of course

In reply to Post #4958 I think so no politics involved .
Kick It Out works within the football, educational and community sectors to challenge discrimination, encourage inclusive practices and work for positive change and most importantly no defunding of the police
Edit
Although I think Millwall would like the police defunded

Not wishing to get too involved with this BLM debate, but from what I saw on the news when it all started it seems to me not so much a protest against racism but more of an excuse for the likes of anarchists etc to cause mayhem and rage through the streets fighting the establishment, coupled with the likes of those who saw it as an opportunity to loot and pillage for their own gain.
I certainly wouldn’t take the knee, it should be All lives matter regardless of colour etc, I go through life with the attitude that if you’re okay with me I’m okay with you and I don’t want anyone forcing their views on me be it race, gender or religion...... or football 👍

In reply to Post #4953 Seeing political stuff is not encouraged in football I do find it a little strange that players take the knee for BLM which is a political movement.
Football has already got and had for some time their own anti racist movement with slogans such as 'show racism the red card' and ' no room for racism', what they should be doing at the start of a match is making a stand for that not BLM which could come back and bite them if the BLM movement starts to push their political agenda and people start to distance themselves.
Now if fans start booing the red card/no room movement then there can't be any excuses that would be racist.

In reply to Post #4952 done plenty of research Ralphy - it's a matter very close to my heart. the overwhelming majority of people who support the BLM movement are in support of the overarching issue of racial discrimination.
The racist Millwall jokers might try to hide behind the 'we're just opposed to the political movement' but let's get serious - they're not fooling anyone. The players posted a very clear message the day before the game that outlined their intent and distanced themselves from the political agenda - the taking the knee prior to the game was / is about the ongoing treatment of black and ethnic minority players / coaches / staff in sport. You know it as well as I do.
The supporters club statement admitted they were in 'disagreement with anti-discrimination' - put another way, they are in agreement with discrimination, which in this case is race related. Racism. clear and simple.
If they wanted to voice opposition to the political element, then they could have written to them rather than their disgraceful action the other night. of course there's the hypocrisy of people saying that 'we should keep politics out of sport' and then 'we are protesting about the political agenda' in the same breath...
have you read / heard the response from the black players who were on the field? that in itself is more than enough reason to condemn what happened.
contrast with the response from the Spurs fans - do you think they're all signed up members of that political element? of course not. perhaps they can see past the guff to the real matter at hand eh?
anyway - you getting a nose bleed yet? it's late in the season for the spuds to be that high up...
