In reply to Post #198 Good call, he chose a good time for a big score
It's easy to be overlooked when your that short, kp didn't help much in that respect

In reply to Post #196 What does James Taylor have to do to get in. Skipper's A team and didn't look out of his depth against Steyn and morkel in 2012. Bell's had too many chances now and gets promoted to three crazy.

In reply to Post #195 Please god no
Rob key was a bit of a boycott, not many players like that these days, they all want to get after the bowlers from the off. That's the affect T20 has had

In reply to Post #194 lythe just don't look like he fits to me, like carberry . I thought Compton weren't given enough time and he was a player with the attitude of seeing off the new ball, we don't need attacking openers with bell, root, stokes, butler and moeen in the team! even if the openers can get us past 50 form the first 20 overs, that a be a start. I hope im wrong about lythe and a smacks a double ton next bat but I cant see it
You have just made the perfect case for the recall of...
Geoff Boycott!

In reply to Post #191 I dunno what to say to that...
I wanted bell at three when trott had a spaz and bell was our best batsman, but that was 20 innings and not many runs ago...
Ballance will come back in the future, probably at 4 or 5.
Lythe has shown enough for me to give him more time, he's had some bad luck and very good deliverys among his dismissals, he needs to make runs in this series though or he'll be another Compton carberry key.....

In reply to Post #191 What, so madame Lythe gets another go he just don't look like he will ever be a test cricketer. Compton done better than him and he's now on the scrapheap and will probably get overlooked. Bring back trescothick

In reply to Post #190 Ooooooooooooo! Nasty!
It has been confirmed that Jonny Bairstow will bat at five, with Joe Root moving up to four and Ian Bell at three.
Gary Ballance has been dropped after scoring 23 and 14 in his two innings in the second Test at Lords.

I think Bell's time is up. He's had too many 2nd chances as it is. Bairstow? Possibly, but IMO just more canon fodder for the Mitches who will want to get the upper hand over the newcomer a.s.a.p. Take lots of padding, Jonny!
Edgebaston may prove a bit more challenging to the Aussies and if we can just win the toss...
BTW did anybody see that dramatic crash in the Tour yesterday? I thought Thomas was a gonner for sure. Tough cookie and no mistake. Maybe he should switch to cricket. We need tough attitudes like that to stand up to the quicks.

In reply to Post #187 yeah sort of agree with you mate and I would a taken 1-1 aswell, im just shouting me mouth off about what I think will happen if we don't freshen up a bit, before the ashes started, I cant remember a test match we dominated in recent times, all the ones we won we could of lost. it all went wrong the day swann retired and trott lost his bottle, not because of the players they were, but the mental strength they had within the team, its like cogs have been falling away since and some results have flattered us
anyhow that's my rant overwith, I hope they have a little change and compete at Edgbaston, I be happy with competing

In reply to Post #186 None of them coped with the situation where they had to defend.
for me the middle order are too quickly exposed every match, I'd like to see a youngish IN FORM opener/no 3 come in at 3, ballance drop to 4 and bell get kick up the backside in the county game.
I can't see finn coming in, he's another who seems mentally fragile, although it does seem strange to have just three bowlers and the two batting alrounders (three if you count root)
Just to add some perspective the way England have played this last 18 months I'm not upset at being 1-1 after two tests, in fact if you had offered me that after the west indies and world cup debacles I'd have bitten your hand off

In reply to Post #185 Bairstow looks next in line for batting position outside the top three, another positive player to go with the new attacking ethos
yes - agreed
Unfortunately when you stack a team in any sport to go hard in attack it occasionally backfires when your unable to defend.
Not agreed, we didn't even get bowled out playing attacking cricket, we didn't get the chance(apart from stokes but he knows no other way), we looked scared, that's whats worrying, maybe its right not bringing back KP but they need to decide what they want from this ashes-
Win at all costs- then bring KP back, get finn in aswell and give them some bounce, or
plan for the future- chuck a couple of no fear youngsters in and get them used to test cricket early, if nothing changes the next test is lost, the media will be having it off and the ashes will be gone
agree about the matey matey situation and we need selectors like -
Darren gough, , dominic cork, beefy and vaughny, people that recognise desire to win.
